New York Comic Con 2026 Welcomes More Than 250,000 Fans for 20th Anniversary

New York Comic Con 2026 celebrated 20 years of fandom at the Javits Center with more than 250,000 attendees, 650+ exhibitors, over 500 Artist Alley participants, major panels, celebrity appearances, cosplay and more.

New York Comic Con has officially wrapped its 20th anniversary celebration, and the numbers show just how massive the event has become.

According to a post-show announcement from ReedPop, more than 250,000 fans attended New York Comic Con from October 8 through 11, 2026, bringing together fans of comics, anime, gaming, movies, television, collectibles and pop culture at the Javits Center in New York City.

What began 20 years ago in a single Javits Center hall with approximately 33,000 attendees has grown into one of the world's largest pop culture events.

The 2026 edition also generated an estimated $91 million economic impact for New York City, according to New York City Tourism + Conventions.

20 Years of New York Comic Con

The 20th anniversary edition brought together a massive combination of celebrities, comic creators, authors, cosplayers, exhibitors and fans throughout the four-day convention.

The show featured major panels, exclusive previews, announcements and trailer debuts for highly anticipated television series and films, including Dexter: Resurrection, Avatar: Seven Havens, Crystal Lake, The Rookie, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Ghosts, Blade Runner 2099, Children of Blood and Bone and Whalefall.

The convention also welcomed major stars including Nicolas Cage, Paul Bettany, Lena Heady, Matt Smith, Hayden Christensen and Ian McDiarmid, along with recognizable voice talent connected to franchises such as One Piece, Final Fantasy VII Revelation and Naruto.

NYCC also introduced its first Getty Portrait Studio, which welcomed stars including Josh Brolin, Linda Cardellini, Alexandra Daddario, Carrie-Anne Moss, Norman Reedus and Gabourey Sidibe. NFL star Rob Gronkowski also made a surprise appearance in Doctor Doom cosplay.

More Than 650 Exhibitors Filled the Show Floor

For fans, the show floor remained one of the biggest attractions.

According to ReedPop, NYCC 2026 featured more than 650 publishers, brands and retailers, including major names such as Bandai, Dark Horse, DC, Funko, Marvel, Penguin Random House, Scholastic, VIZ Media and Webtoon.

That scale was something RadioAnime experienced firsthand throughout our coverage.

From massive anime displays and collectibles to gaming experiences, exclusive merchandise, interactive activations and photo opportunities, there was seemingly something new to discover around every corner.

Our own NYCC coverage included stops at Bandai Namco, Dragon Ball, NARUTO, VIZ Media, Webtoon, Crunchyroll, One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Nickelodeon, Pony Canyon, ANA and many more.

Artist Alley Featured More Than 500 Creators

Artist Alley was another major part of this year's convention.

More than 500 Artist Alley participants filled the show floor, including creators such as Alex Segura, Ben Percy, Chris Claremont, Denys Cowan, Frank Miller, Jim Lee, Katie Cook, Peach Momoko and Tom King, among many others.

RadioAnime also spent time exploring the creative side of NYCC, including the work of established artists and independent creators.

One of the standout experiences for us was seeing the Jim Lee and Torpedo Comics project, which featured one-of-a-kind customized artwork created specifically for fans.

Cosplay Takes Center Stage

Cosplay once again became one of the most visible parts of the convention.

On October 10, NYCC hosted the Cosplay Central Crown Championships qualifier, presented by Krazy Glue, highlighting the creativity, craftsmanship and performance of some of the Northeast's top cosplayers.

Silwen Cosplay took first place and became the Regional Champion with their Sakizo Giulietta cosplay, earning $1,000 and a trip to C2E2 2027 for the National Finals.

Second place went to Gillian Conahan for their Lune cosplay from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, while Savant Celestial placed third with a Mother Miranda cosplay from Resident Evil.

Additional category winners included:

  • Where You At At — Armor category, Ciri from The Witcher

  • Bombshell Beckie — FX category, X-Men Mystique/Gambit fusion

  • Annieexmachina — Needlework category, Gideon the Ninth

The cosplay competition was judged by Say No to Scrunchies, Dressesandcapes and Akellyz.

NYCC's 2026 Coney Island theme also continued onto the Community Stage, where attendees could enjoy Sideshow performances throughout the weekend.

Professional Programming Expands

NYCC 2026 also featured a major professional programming component across five days in the River Pavilion.

For the first time, fans were able to attend select professional sessions through the newly introduced aspiring professionals program, giving attendees an opportunity to learn more about the professional side of the comics and entertainment industries.

RadioAnime was also on-site during the professional and industry programming period, giving us an early look at the convention floor before the public crowds arrived.

A Celebration of the NYCC Community

Reflecting on the 20th anniversary celebration, Kristina Rogers, VP of ReedPop US Comics Portfolio, BookCon, and Star Wars Celebration, credited the NYCC community for helping the event reach this milestone.

“New York Comic Con would not be what it is today without our incredible community.”

Rogers added that the team enjoyed celebrating with fans, partners and the NYCC community while looking ahead to the next 20 years of pop culture.

Fans Could Also Follow NYCC From Home

Fans who couldn't attend in person were able to watch highlights from the convention through livestreams from the Empire Stage and Main Stage, available through NYCC's social channels and the Popverse YouTube channel.

That gave fans around the world an opportunity to experience some of the convention's biggest announcements, panels and moments even if they couldn't make it to New York.

What's Next for New York Comic Con?

The 20th anniversary celebration may be over, but NYCC is already looking ahead.

New York Comic Con will return to the Javits Center October 7–10, 2027.

After welcoming more than 250,000 attendees in 2026, the next edition will mark the beginning of the convention's next chapter as it continues bringing together comics, anime, gaming, movies, television, collectibles, cosplay and pop culture fans from around the world.

For RadioAnime, NYCC 2026 was an opportunity to experience that community firsthand — from the show floor and Artist Alley to major panels, interviews, gaming experiences, collectibles and some of the biggest anime activations at the convention.
