MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM SEED FREEDOM ZERO Coming to North American Theaters in February 2027
Gundam fans have plenty to look forward to as MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM SEED FREEDOM ZERO heads to North American theaters in February 2027.
The announcement was made during the “GUNDAM Showcase 2026 @ NYC - Feat. SEED FREEDOM ZERO” panel at New York Comic Con 2026. Gundam Executive Producer Naohiro Ogata and Planning Producer Kaori Shida were joined by the English voice cast of MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM SEED — Matt Hill, Sam Vincent, and Matthew Erickson — for a panel filled with new details, nostalgia, and plenty of Gundam talk.
A Story Between DESTINY and FREEDOM
Fans in attendance were treated to the new teaser trailer for SEED FREEDOM ZERO, which takes place between MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM SEED DESTINY and MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM SEED FREEDOM.
The story puts Shinn Asuka at the center, with the newly revealed teaser visual placing Shinn in the foreground while Kira Yamato and Athrun Zala appear behind him.
Kaori Shida explained that the prominent red color reflects Shinn's concept color and represents his emotions following the events of DESTINY. The film also explores the characters' feelings in greater depth through a screenplay written by the late Chiaki Morosawa.
Director Mitsuo Fukuda also shared a message during the panel, explaining that SEED FREEDOM ZERO brings Morosawa's final screenplay to life and helps connect the events of DESTINY with FREEDOM.
The English Cast Returns
One of the biggest moments of the panel was the confirmation that Matt Hill, Sam Vincent, and Matthew Erickson will return as Kira Yamato, Athrun Zala, and Shinn Asuka for the English version.
The reunion was clearly meaningful for the cast. Matt Hill spoke about how long he had hoped for the opportunity to reunite with the SEED cast and fans, while Sam Vincent and Matthew Erickson also expressed how special it was to return to these characters.
The cast even reenacted a scene during the panel, giving fans a fun look at their chemistry after all these years.
Favorite Gundams and Memorable Scenes
The panel also gave fans the chance to learn which mobile suits and moments from the series stood out most to the returning cast.
For Matt Hill, the Freedom Gundam remains his favorite. His favorite scene centered around brotherhood and the characters finding a way to reconcile their different viewpoints.
Sam Vincent chose the Justice Gundam as his favorite mobile suit. He also highlighted the memorable scenes involving Athrun and Cagalli on the deserted island, a moment that remains particularly memorable for him.
Matthew Erickson picked the Impulse Gundam and discussed the scene where Shinn defeats Kira before Athrun reprimands him. For Erickson, the moment was significant because it showed an important part of Shinn's character and development.
The conversation also led to some playful interaction with the audience, including fans making their own case for their favorite mobile suits.
Matthew Erickson's Gunpla Passion
The panel wasn't just about the anime. Matthew Erickson also showed fans how deeply his passion for Gundam extends into Gunpla.
Erickson described himself as a Gunpla enthusiast and talked about how his building techniques have evolved from simple builds into more advanced painting, airbrushing, and detailing.
He even brought a custom 1/144 Gundam diorama that he personally built and painted, recreating a moment from Gundam SEED Destiny.
It was a great personal touch that showed the cast's connection to Gundam goes beyond simply voicing the characters.
Looking Toward Gundam's 50th Anniversary
During the Q&A, Naohiro Ogata also discussed the future of Gundam as the franchise moves toward its 50th Anniversary.
Ogata explained that the strategy includes a combination of new shows, events, products, games, and other experiences designed to continue growing Gundam around the world.
The discussion also touched on upcoming Gundam projects, including a new TV series, the continued development of the live-action project with Legendary and Netflix, and ongoing promotions surrounding Gundam Wing.
Fans were also given a look further into the future with plans for a major Gundam Con in 2029, which is being envisioned as a major celebration for Gundam fans.

Alongside the new movie information, Bandai also showcased new merchandise inspired by SEED FREEDOM ZERO.
The lineup includes the Infinite Justice Gundam and Booster Unit, Murasame Kai, Gouf Ignited Custom, and Infinite Justice Gundam (SEED FREEDOM ZERO Ver.), along with new figures featuring characters including Shinn, Lunamaria, Leonard Valway, and Lacus.
